Thanks to an awesome person (mr. Ian Abando), I'm lucky enough to participate in the Cup O' Doodle blog. Here are some of the better results from that:
In other news, I'm moving to Boulder, CO. shaWING!

We went to the LA Museum of Natural History today to check out the (somewhat) newly opened hall of dinosaurs. I was trying to do Norm's teaching justice, but I was definitely rusty. missing you Norm. so we drew us some bones then decided hot dogs were in order. Minus the mobs of screaming children, it was a good day.
science is cool.

I like 'em. My buddy Ian Samuels is gearing up to make his thesis film, and he asked me to do some designs for the puppets who will be the centerpiece of the story. It was a fun departure from my usual style and it's REALLY exciting to see these guys come to life. If you have some change to spare, head over to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1832560538/caterwaul and help Ian make his movie!
The first monster design
In completely unrelated news, I made a minishort! Titmouse holds a 5 second day each year, when everyone has the chance to make a film. So I gave it a shot, and this is what came out the other end. Thanks to everyone at Titmouse for helping out, having the opportunity, and even clapping at the end. YAY!

Whelp, this is it. My last term at Art Center. While the thought fills me with glee and sparkly rainbows, one last very large, spikey, intimidating hurdle stands between me and freedom: grad show. That time when all my work gets blown up real big and displayed on the wall next to allllll of my classmates. The stressful part? I haven't made the work yet.
In the meantime, here's some bits and pieces from last term. If they look sketchy, well, that's cause they're sketches. Full color versions of all of these are in the works, but not materialised yet.
wish me luck!

Thoroughly enjoying myself at CTN. I'm so glad it's such a success so that they can keep the event going for many years to come. Such a great resource for students and professionals alike. And come on, who wouldn't get chills (literally) bumping elbows with Peter de Seve, Andreas Dejas, and Moebius (what!?).
So, true to form, I go home with the intention of doing homework, spend the next 3 hours hanging out with friends and watching cool animation, and then spending my remaining evening drawing.... but not my homework. Just some quick sketches of some people I know. Trying to keep it fun and loose while still getting their personalities. Cookies if you can guess who they are!

I love it when it rains in LA.
Quick dump in the middle of a tough week. I have a bunch of landscape paintings, but they need to be cleaned up and made pretty, so no trees for you tonight. Instead, you get characters and props. the colored ones were designed for The Subtle Knife and the uncolored ones are from a personal/class story.
Enjoy!

More doodles, attempts, and other productions as I try to find shelter from icky heat.

Well I'm back from a wonderful crosscountry trip x2. Now that I'm back in LA, it's a little depressing to realize that i'm not sure what to do with myself when I don't have homework. So what do I do? I give myself homework, of course! But i gotta say, it's really nice to do art without the pressure of a deadline behind it. Kind of reminding me of why I used to love to draw. I have a lot of things to work on before I graduate, so here's hopin I actually keep to my schedule.
In the meantime, here's two pieces that came from *ahem* random conversations that somehow developed into drawings. May I present Mobster Ashley and Zombie Velociraptor...

I really don't know why I love that word so much. Maybe because it has more f's than it can handle.
So I was updating my portfolio and decided I should see how my sculpture work looked in there. Which led to late-night awkward photo session. Which led to surprisingly dramatic photos (hand-held spotlight does wonders). Which led to me wanting to share.
So firstly, I re-shot my Imaginatomy project from a few terms back, which has been one of my favorite projects at school. I call the creature a Bone Singer (named for the large bone on its head which produces whale-like sounds). They live in the high desert, have about a 20-ft wingspan and eat carrion.

Ok, I love Alex Schaeffer, but I took this class for Gary. Here's hoping he gets better quickly and comes back before the term is over. Go Gary go!

Some sketches for a young Snow White set in Egypt. Better ones coming... eventually.
First sitting in Advanced Sketching for Illustration. Here's hoping Gary Meyer can come back, cause there's no words for how awesome he is.
